Frequently Asked Questions

Four Seasons String Quartet are happy to answer any of your questions by email, yet many can be immediately settled by consulting our list of frequently asked questions.

Why should I hire FSSQ for my event?

The musicians of Four Seasons String Quartet have been providing music for weddings and other special occasions throughout the Ark-La-Tex since 1981. Anyone who has attended an event where amateur, sub-standard or even student musicians were hired because the price was right, can tell you it really is true what they say - you get what you pay for. There is no substitute for the years of experience and the high level of performance expertise our musicians provide. In addition, we have spent many years acquiring the most extensive music library of any musical group in this area, and we are very proud of the music selections we have to offer.

What are your fees?

Our fees begin at 550 dollars for a string trio. The string quartet is slightly more.

What do you require at the location?

We need four armless chairs. If the lighting is low, we need access to an electrical source. We provide our own stands and stand lights. Because of the delicate nature of our instruments, we also need sufficient space. We merely require a rectangular area of approximately 7 feet by 7 feet that will not be traversed by others during the time of performance.

Will you play outdoors?

Yes, however our instruments are very sensitive and easily damaged by moisture and sunlight. We must be in full shade - sorry, a tree does not count. A tent, porch or gazebo would be great. We cannot play outside if the temperature is below 60 or over 95 or if there is rain or mist. However, in the case of inclement weather, please be assured that we will do everything in our power to play as long as we can while ensuring the safety of our instruments.

Do you attend the wedding rehearsal?

We have found that it is generally unnecessary for us to attend the rehearsal. We will communicate with you to organize the music and to make sure we know what and when we are playing. We arrive 20 to 30 minutes before we begin playing to confirm this with the wedding coordinator.

I have always wanted a string ensemble, but I understand that you can't be heard very well over a large crowd.

While we normally do not need amplification at wedding ceremonies, we have a sound system that we use for receptions and other large events. The sound system is required if we are outside, when inside if the room where we are to be placed is large, or if you expect over 100 guests. We know you want to be able to hear us over polite conversation. Rest assured, there is no extra fee when bringing our sound system. We only require access to adaquate power supply.

Do you travel for weddings and other events?

Yes, we do travel, but there is an extra fee involved. We charge an additional 200 dollars per travel hour one way. As an example, if your wedding or event is in Texarkana, which is approximately 1 hour driving time from Shreveport, you will be charged an additional 200 dollars.

How do I select music for my wedding?

We can help you select music by providing specific suggestions. Be sure to look at our repertoire page. You may also request a demo cd.

Can you perform a special piece of music I want?

We make every attempt to honor our client's special request. If the selection is not in our repertoire, we can try to find an arrangement. If we are able to find the arrangement already written for string quartet and/or string trio, depending upon your choice of ensemble. Then you will only be responsible for reimbursing us the cost of the purchase of the music, which is usually 10 to 20 dollars depending on the publisher. If we are unable to purchase the music already arranged, it may be necessary for us to arrange the music for an additional fee of 50 dollars. However, some pieces just cannot be arranged for our instrumentation. We need to see your music before any decision is made. This also includes any special music to be played with a singer. Please give us two months notice.

Can I hear you play before I book you?

We will be happy to send you a complimentary demo CD of our string trio to help you make your decision in selecting us for your wedding or event. You may also inquire if we have any public performances scheduled.

Can you also play my reception?

We would be glad to play for your wedding and reception. After the wedding, we will move to your reception area and begin playing for your guests as they arrive. Even if you are using a band or DJ, you might want to have FSSQ play for a portion of the reception.
